In just a few weeks, the US federal government has approved the creation of 39 million N95 masks under the Defense Materials Act. The Pentagon announced Saturday that it had allocated 133 million.
Companies in the U.S. defense sector that supply clothing and other materials are being pressured to make these masks. And for this they are being given a maximum of three months.
A statement from the White House said, “The United States Department of Defense will oversee the production and distribution of this large number of N95 masks.” The statement further said that the details will be announced in a few days. It will be known soon which companies are being given the responsibility of making N95 masks.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump on March 23 insisted on creating a ventilator (life support). He then pressured General Motors on March 26 to build a ventilator.
On April 2, Trump ordered the creation of three million N95 masks under the Defense Materials Act. He spoke in support of the US Alliance for Democracy (ADD), but said that maintaining some independence was not the answer.
